The Double Convention is a writing convention that dictates that geminated consonants in the Maschenen Script should be indicated by repetition of the consonant in question, rather than the consonant and the long sign, as in the older Long Sign Convention. The two standards are currently competing for legitimacy in Maschenya.

An example of the difference between the two standards romanized would be:

Maschenyy (Double) vs. Maschenȳ (Long Sign)
